We have enlisted the skills of local students from Macclesfield College to create a series of video shorts that will give insight into careers in the medical communications sector.

This is the second time in recent months that the college students have been provided with valuable workplace experience by the agency. The students recently collaborated with the agency to produce a recruitment video to help attract the best talent to the medical communications sector, as part of their own coursework.

Ashfield Healthcare Communications, one of the largest employers in Macclesfield, approached the college students with a second project after it enjoyed the ‘fresh perspective’ that the students brought to the table during the last digital communications project.

Annie Ashton, Programme Leader, Visual and Performance Arts at Macclesfield College said: “We were delighted to receive the call from Ashfield Healthcare Communications inviting our students to once again get involved with one of their innovative and creative projects. This real work experience is extremely valuable to our students and allows them to gain vital workplace experience, challenging them to step outside their comfort zones, to be innovative and to develop their ideas and creativity.”

The two students Kyle Shufflebotham and Shaun Baker from the college worked with the team at Ashfield Healthcare Communications across its three Macclesfield office sites, to create a number of relaxed and informal short videos. Cameos of 13 members of the Ashfield team were captured across a number of different disciplines and at different stages of their career pathway.

“We’re focused on attracting innovative, bright and passionate people to our business’’, said Gill Adair, Global Head of Talent Acquisition, for AHC, AIP and AME. “Talent is the key to our business. Our main objective in creating these video shorts is to give an insight into the varied and individual roles within Ashfield, educating those candidates who are new to medical communications about what it’s like working within the industry and the types of career paths they can develop here. The videos will also play a key part in talking to potential senior candidates too, with current employees showcasing the variety of career development and opportunities within Ashfield, as well as highlighting the support and flexibility they have received as part of the Ashfield team.”

Tracey Ellis, Corporate Recruiter at Ashfield Healthcare Communications added: “The students had a real interest in science and brought a fresh perspective and creative ideas to our recruitment project. They have created a series of powerful videos that we’ll showcase across our website, social media channels and during careers fairs. These videos will help to educate people on the huge opportunities that exist within a career in medical communications.”

Ashfield Healthcare Communications has a broad range of expertise including strategic consulting and multichannel communications, creative branding, medical education, publication support,  training and scientific PR.
