As part of our People First strategy, Ashfield is pleased to announce the launch of Allegro, its new, market-leading approach to recruiting and training our Associate Medical Writers.

Allegro has been designed to achieve a number of objectives, specifically linked to providing a strong talent pipeline to fuel company growth, providing quality assurance in Associate Medical Writer development, attracting the best talent to Ashfield Healthcare Communications and supporting the agencies in the training and pastoral care of junior Medical and Scientific Services staff.

The 12-month, accelerated-learning programme, commencing in January 2018, comprises an 8-week training phase followed by two five-month rotations around our healthcare communications agencies, after which the Allegro recruits will join an agency team full-time as a medical writer (assuming predefined performance benchmarks have been met). The initial focus will be on the training of our UK-based junior writers, with expansion to the USA a possibility in the longer term. The programme will be a new way of operating for Ashfield Healthcare Communications and will, as it grows to its full capacity of up to 80 recruits per year, bring wider benefits, such as a strong message to our customers about our investment in people and our capacity to deliver client work.

Allegro will be led by Neil Marmont, who is moving from his role as Vice President, Medical and Scientific Services CircleScience/Cirrus Communications to become Programme Director for this new initiative. Over recent years, Neil has played a central role in improving our training offering, working closely with Nicki Davison, Training Manager, and has been the driving force behind Associate Medical Writer recruitment in the UK in the form of the Assessment Centres; as such, Neil is ideally placed to lead Allegro.

Neil commented: “This is a new and exciting approach from Ashfield Healthcare Communications that positions us as the choice for aspiring medical writers, building confidence and ability through a personalised accelerated learning programme that will help us to provide a strong and capable talent pipeline to support the business moving forwards.”

Joining Neil as part of the team will be Sophie Hourihan and Penny Forbes. Sophie joins the team as Project Manager from QXV Comms, where she has been working as an Account Executive. As Business Services Manager, and in addition to her current responsibilities, Penny will support the team in the ongoing development of the programme.
