A little bit about Alex

I am a UI/UX (User interface and experience) Designer at Ashfield Digital & Creative, but my role extends to everything from web design and illustration, to retouching and video editing.

Outside of work I love to cook, draw, and occasionally put on events and gigs at various venues in and around Manchester.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Depending on the project that comes through, I can easily spend a day creating a UX audit of an existing site, suggesting improvements and best practices in accessibility etc.
I also recently spent a couple of days capturing footage and editing it together into a short film for a pitch, which was a great change of pace.

How did you get into this role?

I started my career as a studio junior, brewing up, sourcing stock photography (before the days of the internet), and worked my way up from there.

Any advice for anyone looking to get into a similar role?

Always try to make a record of things that inspire you from day to day, either scribble them down, take a photo/screengrab or even just a mental note. Do this and you will eventually end up with a reference library to use anytime you need a bit of inspiration.

Top three things on your bucket list?

Travel around Japan, write and illustrate a children’s book, and I’d love to be involved in making a video game at some point.

What words would you use to describe your role?

Multifarious and rewarding.

What is the latest tech innovation that excites you most?

Our team have been working on utilising a Hologauze for an upcoming symposium. I’m very interested to see how it turns out, and how we can use this for other events down the line.

An interesting fact about you?

I’ve done voice overs for both Songs of Praise and Queer as Folk.
