A little bit about Michelle

I’m a Technology Lead at Ashfield Digital & Creative; which means I help to scope, plan and deliver the technical aspects of projects.

I’ve been working at Ashfield for about 1 ½ years; initially as a developer and I was promoted to Technology Lead at the end of last year.

Outside of work I read a lot; I would recommend Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel and The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I’m also trying to keep my collection of house plants alive which is proving harder than it sounds!

What does a typical day look like for you?

My role can be quite varied; some days I will be coding for most of the day; bringing a design or process to life. I can also spend quite a bit of time in meetings or planning projects to make sure we deliver on time and on budget.

One thing you would like to learn, develop or work on in 2019?

I’d like to learn more about online accessibility and how we can create exciting, interesting web applications that work well across a multitude of devices and situations.

Top three things on your bucket list?

Travel, learn to speak 5 languages and write a novel.

What is the best piece of advice you have received?

10% of 10 things is 100% of nothing. Trying to do too many things at once means nothing actually gets done.

What words would you use to describe your role?

Busy and varied.

Where to you see yourself in the next 5/10 years?

I’d like to build on my role and move into leading a small team.

What is the latest tech innovation that excites you most?

I’m currently experimenting with the new block editor introduced into the WordPress core at the end of last year. It gives a lot of flexibility to the client in how they create and manage their content so it challenges us to make some fancy features that the client can then add wherever they want.

An interesting fact about you?

I have two degrees; one in Psychology which I completed straight after school and one in Web Development which I completed when I figured out what I wanted to do as a career.
