What drew you to Ashfield Healthcare Communications?
One of my friends works here and she recommended both the business and the career of a Medical Writer to me.
What 3 words describe the culture here at Ashfield Healthcare Communications?
Approachable, friendly and fast-paced.
What’s a typical day like for you?
Typically, either working on/making amendments to practical tasks and/or having training sessions for various aspects of mine and other roles within the business.
What’s the best part of your job?
The friendly people here and the encouraging atmosphere.
What helps you concentrate when writing?
Cups of tea? More seriously, deadlines.
Do you have any advice for aspiring Medical Writers?
If you can, gain some experience in writing before you apply to the role. For example, I ran a small science blog aimed at a lay audience, and it really helped me to get a feel for the med affairs side of the job. Also, it is good to talk about at your interview.
Can you explain the Allegro programme briefly to readers?
Allegro is a training programme created for Associate Medical Writers, candidates are trained in the various aspects of the role and are set practical tasks to generate experience around each area.
Where do you see yourself in 5/10 years?
Hopefully, an established medical/senior medical writer.
Who is your favourite author or inspiration?
My favourite author would have to be J.K. Rowling, and my inspiration would have to be my incredible parents, without whom I would definitely not have got half as far in life.
What are the top three things on your bucket list?
Sounds very boring, but I want to be financially independent, have a successful career and have a happy life. I would also love to run the half marathon that I’m currently training for and travel a little – visit Australia and do the Machu Picchu trek.
If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?
I’d probably waste it watching Netflix to be honest, or actually going on the runs I keep saying I will go on…
What fictional place would you most like to go?
Hogwarts. Without a shred of a doubt.
What are some of the small things that make your day better?
Many, many cups of tea and biscuits, and doing jigsaw puzzles in the kitchen.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to run, read, watch Netflix and eat. I also like to bond with (harass) my dog, Blue (aka my child), who is far more photogenic than I am, so I have included a photo of me and him below.
