The outbreak of COVID-19 has had a huge impact on us all. First and foremost, I want to extend my thoughts and best wishes to everybody affected by this virus. Similarly, on behalf of everyone at UDG Healthcare, I want to thank the healthcare professionals and all other essential workers for their sacrifices in helping control the spread of the virus and to care for those suffering from COVID-19.

Since the start of the crisis, our absolute priority has been the health and well-being of our people and their families. We set up a global response team in the initial stages of the outbreak made up of representatives across the Group and each of our divisions and business units to allow us to implement measures swiftly to protect our colleagues. We have been following all WHO and local government guidelines in the countries in which we operate.

Across all of our businesses we have put in place additional health and safety measures to protect our employees. As a dynamic and technology enabled business, many of our colleagues are able to work remotely, including the majority of our Ashfield business. In some circumstances this isn’t possible, for example at our Sharp sites, where we package critical, and in some cases life-saving medicines for patients. At these sites, where we continue to operate essential services, we have implemented additional health and safety measures to protect our employees, including providing personal protection equipment, additional cleaning and hygiene services and adapting shift patterns to enable required social distancing.

We have introduced initiatives to support our colleagues and provide flexibility as they adapt to a new working environment and balancing work and personal circumstances. As the situation evolves, we are providing regular updates and working faster than ever to develop new employee welfare programmes to support our employees in what we know is an incredibly difficult and challenging time.

In many cases the services we provide will be more important than ever, both for our clients, but also for the patients using our services either directly or indirectly. I want to personally thank everyone involved for the incredibly important work many of you are doing for the benefit of others.

Despite the uncertainty we all face, UDG Healthcare is a strong and resilient business and benefits hugely from the supportive and collaborative nature of the workforce. We are agile and will adapt as required, enabling the business to emerge from this global crisis well positioned for the future.

Once again, I want to take this opportunity to thank all of our 8,700+ employees for their continued hard work, dedication and commitment in response to this crisis. I’ve been enormously proud of the incredible actions and attitudes of our people, many of which have inspired me personally, and I am truly grateful to each and every one of you for your ongoing contribution. It is important to remember that while this period is without doubt an enormously challenging time for us all, it is temporary, and I have no doubt we will get through this together.

Stay safe and with best wishes,

Brendan McAtamney
