Ashfield Meetings & Events has welcomed the third set of students to its university placement scheme following two extremely successful years of operation.

Launched in 2012, the scheme provides a platform for the successful applicants to gain vocational insight and understanding to the meetings and events sector through a year-long work placement. The scheme also allows the agency to strengthen relationships with academic institutions offering event management degrees.

Working with universities throughout the UK and abroad, Ashfield Meetings & Events shortlisted 12 undergraduates to attend a rigorous assessment centre in May. The assessment itself consisted of individual presentations, group exercises, a tour of the head office facilities, a company overview presentation, a question and answer session with existing agency staff and IT tests.

Five placements have been offered. Joining the company as Project Executives on 1 July are Katie Mason, Alexandra Gee, Rebecca Davison, Matilde Liegis and Charmain Stapane, all studying event management degrees.

Helen Capelin (Head Of Operational Excellence) commented: “We have just completed the second year of our scheme and have had a very high calibre of undergraduate – so much so that we have made employment offers to several of them, to return to careers with us, once they have completed their studies. We are delighted to welcome the new class of undergraduates this week. Following initial inductions we will be registering them in our comprehensive internal training programme and looking to provide them with experiences and opportunities that will help demonstrate the realities of a future career in event management.”

Ashfield Meetings & Events have recently welcomed back Jessica Dodsley. Jessica joined the agency in 2012 as part of the first university placement scheme and spent a year with an operational account team. Jessica returned to Sheffield Hallam University to complete her studies and is now back working for the agency. Capelin added: “We are thrilled to have Jessica re-join us. It is testament to both the scheme and her individual skill set and we are confident she will have a long and successful future with our agency.”
