On Friday afternoon we made our way to East Midlands Airport, just 15 minutes from our Head Office in Ashby. Not to jet off on a plane to visit our colleagues in one of our other locations but to drop some biscuits off with some very important people: the team of the pilots, critical care paramedics and consultant doctors who were on call with the Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA).
We were lucky to see the state of the art twin-engine Agusta Westland helicopter which on average carries out three missions every day. It is quite incredible to see it in the flesh and smaller than you may think! They are the fastest civilian helicopters available in the UK, meaning the average response time is just 13 minutes.
The DLRAA mission is “To save lives and improve patient outcomes” and this year the Ashfield Cares Ashby committee decided to help them to do that by choosing them as one of two focus charities for 2017. You can find out more about this great charity here: www.theairambulanceservice.org.uk
Along with the biscuits for the crew, we also dropped off a cheque for £20,000 from money raised by Ashfield Cares Ashby to help keep such a vital local service in the skies.
At Ashfield our mission is to help improve lives. We do this every day by working with our clients to help healthcare professionals and patients get the medicines, knowledge and support they need. We are also committed to using our size, resources and geographical reach to have a positive impact on the communities around us through the work of Ashfield Cares.
