Nominated by Liz Southey and Nicola Duckworth, Murray Edmunds, Vice President, Medical Writing Excellence for Watermeadow Medical, an Ashfield Healthcare Communications agency, won the Quality category in our CEO Awards for his efforts striving for writing excellence across the company.
We asked Murray Edmunds on what it means to him to win this award:
“I feel really flattered by this award. Firstly, it is gratifying to know that I have been nominated by my colleagues who must therefore see something of value in me! Secondly, it is encouraging to know that what I do, which mostly take place in the Oxfordshire office of Watermeadow Medical, has some visibility across the much larger UDG organisation. I really do strive for quality, so to be recognised for this value gives me great pride.”
Over his 18 years with Watermeadow, Murray has consistently directed his efforts to develop over a hundred medical writers – many often starting with no writing experience at all.
Murray is fantastic in a classroom setting, being able to engage with students so they enjoy learning from him. On the other side, at a 1:1 level, he can provide constructive feedback that his students can take on board and learn from.
As a result, writers at all levels – but particularly those at the junior, associate medical writer (AMW) level – feel and appreciate the time and effort that we, as a business, put into training and development to support them and their career choice. Time after time, when talking to AMWs, they cite that the training and development received from Murray is second-to-none. The learning culture that Murray instils from the outset follows all of our staff throughout their career.
“For me, the desire to deliver with high quality comes very naturally. My role has been more concerned with nurturing the talent of other writers who are newer into this industry. There’s nothing more pleasing for me than being able to say to a writer who joined the company maybe only two years previously that their work has been “beautifully written” says Murray.
Murray received recognition from Brendan McAtamney, Chief Executive Officer : “I would like to say a huge congratulations to Murray on his win in our CEO Awards 2017 Quality category. It is clear how highly regarded he is amongst his colleagues for consistently striving for writing excellence across Ashfield Healthcare Communications. He truly lives the value of Quality by how much support and time he gives to training and developing his medical writers.”
